One Voice to Get Moving

Groups often turn quiet, not because nobody has anything to say but because people expect others to say what they’ve been holding inside.

  • They want somebody to be courageous enough and say what’s obvious
  • They wait for someone else to lead and call out what doesn’t make sense
  • They wait to follow anybody who would dare to speak up

Since everybody’s waiting and the silence appears comfortable, nobody cares. And they don’t risk making a fool of themselves. Hence, quietness takes over.

But if you clear your throat, sensibly articulate your thought, and address what’s exactly on everybody’s minds, you finally make others feel comfortable enough to share.

The good thing? They feel grateful that someone broke the ice, and it’s good when that someone is you. It gets things moving.
