What Would You Rather Not Do?

Overcommitment is a thing.

It’s the second week of this year. We’ve collectively created many lists and vision boards. The act is based on the assumption that doing more is an obvious answer to fulfillment.

The pathway to peace.

The solution to our problems.

The proof that we’re alive.

The rear mirror we can smile at.

The food for our empty souls.

But then…

It’s also not tough to notice that the to-do lists are on steroids, the goals set are merely attempts to keep up with others, and people continue to crumble despite achieving enough.

To me, it simply sounds like achievements aren’t an answer to contentment.

Here’s a realization that sort of kicked in the last year

You can find meaning in doing less.

It’s fulfilling to do a few things well with your heart drenched in them until they grow on you. That’s what makes memories, makes your soul fuller, and hopefully leaves you with a lasting etching of joy.

The overwhelm of the world around you affects how you live your life, without you realizing it. So not getting carried away is important.

What does that mean?

Do lesser things that matter more.

Every year can feel meaningless and end with dissatisfaction when you do too many things that matter very little.

But if you find a few things you hold close, you’ll see the next year without that unnerving feeling of incompleteness.
